My dad died unexpectedly last year, while in hospital, at the time he was drawing up plans on a serviette for me so I could continue his camper van project he bought for mum.
When dad passed away he left everything to mum, but she is now going downhill, my brother is special needs, I had to take over everything.
I've never done a tax or gst return because I was always in paid employment, now I'm starting my own business, plus I need help with the estate, it was time to get an accountant.
I had to step up for my dying mother and special needs brother, they were unable to help or advise me, so got on google and had a look online.
When I rang David for the first time, it was hard because I had just lost my dad, I didn't know what to do, who to turn to or trust.
I explained the situation to David and he listened attentively. His attention to detail and customer service surprised me because when he asked questions they were in depth with further follow up questions. The demonstration of good old fashioned customer service, I felt like David really understood me.
At our first meeting, there was lots of accounting mumbo jumbo words which I didn't understand, however David took the time to explain things in a way so I could visualize it. With my physical disabilities and chronic pain, David was very patient, he made me feel comfortable at the meeting, and stopped immediately when things got too bad for me. There was no awkwardness like you get in some places where people stare and do nothing, in the moment David was amazing, he was helping me as if he had been a support worker for years.
When gathering documents for the accountant it got confusing as the financial year is different from a standard calendar year, then there’s different documents for different things, David gave me a checklist with everything on it, now I know what to have ready for him next year.
I’m no computer geek, never used zero or anything accounting related. David is guiding me through the process to setup zero and explains why this is the preferred method with clients now....I just want to make things easier and faster for me! My dads method was always cursing and swearing at the dining table sorting piles of paper then off he went to hand it all over to his accountant. He did that all his life I want an easier way and David is showing me how.
The first lot of tax and gst returns have been filed, it was a huge relief because it’s been done properly. I can sleep at night not stressing about IRD coming for me because I went through a chartered accountant, didn’t cut corners or dodge paying taxes etc. If I filed the return myself and made a mistake, last thing I want is to be audited and lose my business.
David has been wonderful throughout the whole process. His understanding, empathy and support to someone like me, a cripple handyman, I won’t take business elsewhere, not now, instead I will happily recommend David to others because of my own personal experience.
